Liz Cohen
Futureye Associate

Liz has over 7 years of experience working in the UK and US advising corporate and not-for-profit clients on sustainability and accountability issues. She has worked within a variety of industries including brewing, banking, nuclear, retail, gambling, telecommunications and extractive sector.

 

Liz has a particular interest in the social issues relating to sustainability and has extensive experience in the issues of business and human rights, ethics, governance, community investment and supply chain risks. She has supported Amnesty International in a number of ways including advising the Secretary General on mining and human rights issues for the World Economic Forum and presenting current mining issues to the Economic Relations workshops to inform their global strategy. She sat on their business advisory group for 4 years.

 

Liz believes that sustainability and accountability are not ‘add-ons’ but are an integral part of the strategic make-up of any organisation and that understanding and addressing risks and opportunities relating to sustainability is core to a successful organisation.

Experience

·         Broad industry experience advising companies on critical sustainability issues. Of particular note is her extensive experience reviewing large multinational corporations sustainability practices in local subsidiary offices including Algeria, Bulgaria, China, Myanmar, India, Indonesia, Israel, Turkey, UK, US and West Papua.

·         Example sustainability assessments include reviewing resettlement plans and community engagement in West Papua, a CO2 sequestration project in Algeria, BTC pipeline in Turkey and community relations and human rights issues around a gas pipeline in Myanmar.

·         Undertaking stakeholder engagement with both local community members and local NGO organisations to determine effectiveness of the relationship with the corporate client

·         Advising Amnesty International on business and human rights issues

·         Report writing and assurance experience while working at Ernst and Young UK in the Corporate Responsibility Services Group

  • Masters in Business and Environmental Management (currently undertaking)
